The five-member team of European School Radio successfully completed its participation in the second phase of the Erasmus+ project ‚VIBE – Visionary Interactive Broadcasting for Empowerment‘. Organized by the Italian association APG (Agenzia per la Promozione dei Giovani), the program brought together delegations from seven countries in Sant’Anastasia, Naples: Italy, Serbia, Romania, Estonia, Slovenia, Albania, and Greece.

Following the initial Study Visit phase , our team took part in an intensive eight-day Training Course. The central objective was to equip youth workers with strategic communication competencies and develop an innovative tool: the metapodcast. This ‚meta-podcast‘ is designed as a guide to help youth organizations navigate the steps of creating their own productions.

Through hands-on, experiential workshops, we delved into critical production stages, such as defining the target audience, structuring the script (storytelling), and strategic planning. This experience not only strengthened European School Radio’s international network but also laid the groundwork for the System Development and Outreach Activities (SDOA) phase. During this upcoming period, the next episodes will be developed, with a completion horizon of May 2026.

What follows is a detailed look back at our experience in Italy.

Review of the VIBE Training Course

The Greek mission, consisting of Dimitris Papacharalambous, Chara Skoumpopoulou, Evi Chondrantoni, Maria Tsiami, and Kaiti Germanli, arrived in Naples on the afternoon of Sunday, December 7th, and proceeded to Sant’Anastasia for the commencement of the program.

The first day was dedicated to ice-breaking activities to facilitate introductions among the national missions. Participants presented their organizations in the creative format of a „radio broadcast,“ while the core objectives of the seminar within the framework of the Erasmus+ VIBE project were established. In the afternoon, the training moved to the streets of Sant’Anastasia through an interactive „treasure hunt.“ This activity served a dual purpose: familiarizing members with the local area and providing practical application of communication techniques. Teams carried out targeted missions at selected city landmarks, such as producing videos and creating short promotional spots for local businesses, highlighting them as points of reference and emotional connection for the local youth.

On the second day, the workshops focused on identifying the essential ingredients for a successful podcast („Pot-dcast“). This was followed by an exchange of best practices and a review of findings from a previous Study Visit. The day concluded with the traditional intercultural night, which strengthened the bonds between the participating countries.

The third day’s program centered on strategic planning through the creation of a „Personal Canvas“ and the precise definition of the target audience for the podcasts to be developed in the next phase of the VIBE project. Concurrently, participants took part in an exceptionally interesting educational visit to the Radio Gogo station in Naples. There, they were given a tour of the facilities and were briefed on the station’s operations, gaining valuable expertise. The experience concluded with an immersion into the local culture and gastronomy of the city.

The fourth day was entirely devoted to the art of Storytelling. Based on Joseph Campbell’s „The Hero’s Journey,“ the teams participated in a demanding role-playing game: managing the hypothetical news discovery of the „fountain of youth“ in Sant’Anastasia. Through a „communication show“ featuring mock press conferences, participants practiced strategic planning, persuasive speech, and the use of creative elements to captivate an audience, effectively turning theory into practice.

On the fifth day, work continued with planning sessions and audio editing workshops aimed at enhancing the quality of future productions. On the sixth day, the roles for each national team regarding the creation of the meta-podcast were defined, and the timeline for upcoming actions was finalized.

The program concluded with a moving farewell evening, a perfect epilogue to an intense and creative week held in an atmosphere of warmth and unity. Participation in the VIBE project marks the beginning of a new creative period for European School Radio, as a new podcast series dedicated to the art of podcast production for youth organizations will soon be released.

We would like to thank the APG organization and all the partners for the excellent coordination and the valuable exchange of knowledge. You can stay updated on the project’s progress via the accounts @vibe_trainingcourse, @apg.italia, and our official page @europeanschoolradio.
